Advance HE has worked with the British Council Bangladesh and its partners in Bangladesh, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and higher education institutions, designing a blended Teaching Excellence Programme (TEP) to develop staff who can lead teaching development programmes in their own institutions and the wider HE sector.
The success of the first programme, delivered in 2022-23, provided the basis for the second delivery this academic year. Advance HE worked closely with the earlier programme participants as co-facilitators, developing experienced trainers to support building capacity in teaching excellence in Bangladesh.
More than 20 institutions have now been involved in these programmes with over 40 participants to date.
Daniel Sheratte, Advance HE’s International Partnerships Manager, said, “We are delighted to continue to support the Bangladeshi HE sector and have already heard about impactful changes of approach and teaching practices.
"Feedback shows that the TEP programme is motivational and enabling – and means that the participants will be able to return to their universities well equipped to lead and support others in delivering a first-class student academic experience. For institutions, it means a sustainable and scalable approach to teaching excellence. We look forward further collaborations and contributing to growing the Bangladeshi HE sector’s global reputation.”
Kathy Wright, Advance HE Global Associate, who has been working with the programme participants and Directors of QA or Assistant Directors of QA in their universities, commented on their ‘growing commitment – alongside their institutions - to engage with this professional development and lay the foundations for enhanced teaching, a great student experience and a strengthening international reputation for higher education.’ The data from one of the directors, provided in a poster on the final day, showed an impressive 90% adoption of new practices.
Co-facilitators and participants in the programme will be able to use their learning as evidence of their continuous professional development should they decide to apply for Advance HE Fellowship.
