A project which explores how holistic approaches to sustainability are developed and implemented in higher education around the globe is published today by Advance HE.
Sustainable Institutions, supported by Advance HE’s Collaborative Development Fund 2022-23, is an evidence-informed review of good practice led by the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
The project team reviewed academic research and examples of sustainable institutions from around the world to provide Advance HE members with an evidence-base of current best practices for developing as a sustainable institution.
Dr Iain Cross, Associate Professor, Education Development at LSHTM and Dr Alina Congreve, an independent researcher, collaborated with global institutions to develop an accompanying collection of five in-depth international case studies based on the literature review, finding out what universities have done so far and how they have gone about it.
This project will make a significant contribution to understanding how institutions can take a holistic approach to sustainability.
“It provides Advance HE members with an evidence-base of current best practices which can foster a deeper understanding of the challenges and the need to adopt strategic approach to sustainability across all areas of operations: teaching, research and civic responsibility.”Dr Kay Hack, Lead Consultant (Education), at Advance HE
