Equality in higher education: statistical reports

Now in its 16th year, our annual Equality in Higher Education: Statistical Reports aim to assist the sector in better understanding the main equality challenges for higher education institutions.

By presenting a snapshot of the age, disability, ethnicity and sex of higher education staff and students, as well as the interplay between these identities, this report can help direct future efforts to overcome these challenges and address the inequalities in the UK higher education sector.

We are looking to find out more about how members use the reports and gather feedback on their effectiveness. If you would like to contribute, you can complete the survey here. 

As well as analysis of age, disability, ethnicity and sex, the reports present high-level findings on staff and student gender reassignment, religion and belief and sexual orientation data, and how this data intersects with other identity characteristics.

We encourage you to use these reports as a starting point for further examination. To help you access and analyse the data used, all of the tables presented in these reports are available to download in Excel format. These also include further detail not included in the report: for example, data disaggregated by five-year age group, impairment type, ethnic group, and subject area.
